Lewa I Ke Kai

This is the image just prior to the final shot. The shot was taken while I was waist deep in water. The waves had crashed past me and up a seven foot cliff. The dancers stood their ground. The next wave surrounded their rock when I made the photograph. I moved the dancers off of the rock, as the next wave completely covered where they had been.

$750 was raised at the auction

All proceeds from the auction were split between two halaus, Halau ‘O Hali’ileo on Kaua’i (Kumu: Doric Yaris) and Halau ‘O Pualani in San Diego (Kumu: Barbara Finneran).

Doric Yaris produced a new CD, entitled, “Momi – Kaleo Club Vol.1”, dedicated to his late wife, A. Momi Gampong-Yaris. This CD was offered to the winning bidders at the auction.

Musicians at the auction were: John Rivera, Pali Carbonel, Doric Yaris and Fred Aki, Jr.

Hula was performed by dancers from Doric’s halau, Halau ‘O Hali’ileo

Pupus were provided by: Dee and Gene Davila of Pizzetta in Kapa’a

Master of Ceremonies was Alan Alalem
